Give Your Laundry a Boost with Borax

Give Your Laundry a Boost with Borax

Life can be messy. And sometimes the normal detergent just won’t cut it for those especially stubborn stains. Luckily, 20 Mule Team Borax™ can help to turn that laundry nightmare into a laundry legend.

What is a Laundry Booster?

When you’re washing your clothes you’re always looking for that “just-like-new” feeling where it seems like you just pulled the clothes off the rack. However, multiple washes can cause clothes to fade and look dingy or worn.

20 Mule Team Borax™ combats this by helping detergent do a better job of cleaning clothes while making sure that they maintain their shine. Borax works as a great laundry booster and it helps normal laundry detergent get clothes even cleaner than an average wash.

How Does It Work?

Borax is effective at cleaning clothes and helping detergents work because it helps adjust the pH levels of the wash itself. Borax is a basic compound, so that means that when it is added to water the pH level of the water would move from a neutral 7 to a slightly more basic 8.

The combination of water and Borax allows detergent to work even better as it is easier for it to clean with a more basic water pH. The basic pH level allows detergent to combine with water more easily and get an even deeper clean. This is because the Borax literally attaches onto the more basic water molecules and can get a deep clean on even the toughest stains!

How to Use Borax as a Laundry Booster

Borax can help with kids’ (or messy adults’) clothes that are especially susceptible to fading or not getting fully clean after a load. Here’s how to make the most of your washer.

What You’ll Need

  • 1/2 cup of 20 Mule Team Borax™
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 Mason Jar/Sealable Container
  • 1 Measuring Cup

1. Heat Water
The first step is to heat the water itself so that it is most effective when paired with the Borax. Hot water helps to make the Borax more soluble so it works its way into the clothing and gets an even deeper clean. We’d recommend letting the two cups of water heat to a simmer before you take it off the stove.

2. Add Borax
Measure 1/2 cup of Borax and pour it into the mason jar or container. Then follow this with the warm water. The hot temperature should help the Borax to dissolve and become more effective.

3. Mix Solution
Close the lid on the solution and shake well. You’re fine to just let it sit in the sealed container until you need it.

4. Add to Laundry
When you need to put your laundry booster into action, just pour in about half a cup of the solution into your load to help your detergent work even better!
