There are a lot of different cleaning products that take up the valuable space under our kitchen sinks and in our laundry room cabinets. Each cleaner brags it’s the best for each specific situation.
However none of these cleaners are able to do it all, and none of them are able to do it with just one ingredient. Fortunately, the active ingredient in Borax (Sodium Borate) has properties that help soften water and eliminate odor, so here we’ll explain how you can turn that into an all-purpose cleaner around your home.
You’ll need:
- A 12-16 oz spray bottle (do not reuse from another product!)
- Borax
- Warm water
Dilute a ½ cup of Borax into 12 ounces of warm water until no clumps remain. Then pour the mixture to a squirt bottle for application. Be sure to label your squirt bottle and always turn it to the off position after use. It should be stored out of reach of children and pets, as with all household cleaning products.
If you love the smell of lavender or fresh spring waters, you can simply add a few spoonfuls of Purex® Crystals™ scent booster to the solution.
1. Cleaner
When Borax mixes with water, the molecules will convert to hydrogen peroxide. You can use this to clean surfaces in your kitchen or bathroom.
2. Odor Fighter
Borax helps fight odors that are caused by mold and mildew. Spray some on workout clothing or use in moist environments like bathrooms to keep things smelling fresh.
3. Water Softener
The Sodium Borate in Borax interacts with hard water buildup that can occur on many appliances and faucets. Use some solution along with a scrubber brush to remove that calcium and magnesium buildup.
